Congratulations! You're embarking on a great adventure as a new mom. At Upstate OB/GYN Group, we want to be your partners in making sure your pregnancy experience is a great one. With two locations serving Greenville, Clemson and surrounding Upstate, SC areas, we offer convenient access to care throughout your pregnancy. Below are some common questions we are asked from our moms-to-be: I think I'm pregnant - when do I need to see a doctor? If you have a positive home pregnancy test, go ahead and call and make an appointment, keeping in mind that we generally see women when they are near their seventh or eighth week of pregnancy. Not sure how far along you are? Look back to the first day of your last period - the amount of weeks that have passed since then correspond to your weeks of pregnancy. What happens at the first visit? If you are pregnant or think you are pregnant, we will schedule you for a short
initial visit that will give us necessary
information to prepare for your first full obstetrical visit. This initial
visit will last only about 15 minutes.
In that time, you will be introduced to our OB
Coordinator, who will start your medical record, obtain the
necessary pregnancy confirmation, provide you with some
pregnancy-specific literature, discuss nutrition and address your general
questions. She will also obtain information from you so that we can completely
address your financial needs.
In the laboratory area of our office, a blood
sample will also be obtained. If you are not taking a prenatal vitamin, one will
be prescribed for you. We will also provide hospital information regarding
pre-admission, prenatal classes and other available services.
We will also discuss the genetic tests that area available to you during pregnancy. Learn more about these tests >> After this initial visit, we will be have
information necessary for your next, more extensive visit in which we will:
How often will I see the doctor during my pregnancy? If your pregnancy progresses normally, you will come in about once a month until your seventh month. At that time, you will come every two weeks until your last month, at which time we will see you weekly until you deliver.I have a question about my pregnancy - what do I do?Many of our patients find it helpful to keep a question list to bring with them to their appointments. It is inevitable that you will forget to ask something during your scheduled appointment, so this can be a great way to ensure you have all of your questions answered. If you have a question regarding your pregnancy that cannot wait, simply call one of our Upstate, SC offices and a nurse will return your call. When do I get ultrasounds?Upstate OB-GYN Group proudly offers the latest in advanced 3D/4D ultrasound technology. Most insurance companies pay for an early ultrasound to confirm the pregnancy and another around 20 weeks to do a full body scan of the baby. For those with high risk pregnancies or those with unexpected issues that need to be examined, insurance usually will cover additional ultrasounds. We offer several ultrasound packages that you can purchase if you'd like to "see" your new baby more often, including a gender determination ultrasound between 14-20 weeks and packages to get incredible 3D/4D keepsake images and videos of your baby later in pregnancy. How do I pre-register at the hospital?Pre-registering at the hospital is a great way to make arrangements prior to
delivery and save time at the admitting office when your baby is on the way. At
your first OB appointment we will give you the paperwork for pre-registration.
We suggest that you attend St. Francis' Great Expectations class, which will give
you an overview of what to expect while in the hospital. In addition, you can
visit www.stfrancisbaby.org to see a video tour of the hospital and learn more about what to expect.
